The Freddie Trucker Hat
This isn’t just a hat. It’s a tribute. A way to remember and honour the military working dog heroes who have risked everything for our country — and to carry their legacy with us in everyday life.
Freddie’s story began in Bosnia, learning the skills that would one day save lives. Selected to serve in the British Army, he deployed on multiple tours of Afghanistan, with his final tour being Herrick 18 — my first, and his fifth. I was a young soldier; Freddie was already a veteran. He took me under his wing without hesitation, showing me that finding IEDs was all in a day’s work. His calm presence in the most dangerous moments kept me grounded when fear threatened to take over.
Throughout his career, Freddie found multiple IEDs, saving hundreds of lives — including mine — both overseas and later, when I was a civilian struggling to keep going.
He had his quirks. He despised kennel cleaning equipment, plotting elaborate schemes to lure people close enough to steal it from their hands. He could escape from any room or house, but never to run away — only to sit outside and watch the world, content.
After retiring in 2016, Freddie became my constant companion until his passing in 2022. He was my best friend, my battle buddy, and my lifeline.
The Freddie Trucker Hat carries his name, his legacy, and the unspoken bond between handler and dog. Wear it with pride, knowing you’re honouring not just Freddie, but every four-legged hero who has served.
